Buicks in New Zealand:
1939 Buick Sedan Model 41
Owner - Terry Stock

Late 1930s Buicks are the most numerous models in the NZ club. This 1939 Model 41 sedan with a Fisher body was assembled at the now closed General Motors plant at Petone near the capital city Wellington.

That plant assembled the full range of General Motors brands sold in New Zealand, including Chevrolet, Pontiac, Vauxhall of England and Holden of Australia. Yes, like all New Zealand assembled cars this one was right hand drive from new - (June 2001)

It was worth restoring as only 2 came to NZ in March 1937, this being the only one to survive. The body shape is Fisher assembled in Canada, and imported new as right hand drive.

Original cost to us: NZ $2,100
Cost to restore: NZ $60,000
Body work, new made up panels all hammered and filed, no 'Bog" or filler used.
Time to restore: 8 years
Approximate Value today NZ $50,000

As you can see, it was not restored to make money out of it, but it has resulted in the making of many new friends. The restoration was finished for the 1996 New Zealand 50th Anniversary Rally in the South Island.
